This Taiji movement, "Embrace Tiger, Return to the Mountain" is a classic Qi-Exercise for augmenting the Earth Element - the inner sense of stability and centeredness.
Earth-Element exercises are a staple in traditional Daoist medicine for the time when the seasons are changing from one to another. These exercises are also indicated when your inner life, or life in your village, country, or planet are very unbalanced.
To practice:
Inhale as your arms circle up and exhale as they come down at your sides - bending your knees
Inhale again as you cross the arms and stand up.
Exhale your hands float out like they're resting on a cloud and then float down to your sides.
Inner practice:
As you circle your hands out and then bend your knees, imagine encompassing the solidity and stability of the earth with your imagination.
As you cross your hands and rise up, imagine that you're gathering that earth energy into your body
Finally, let the hands float back down as you feel your self stable like a mountain.
